Music Programming Changes
|
Beginning on June 3rd, 2023, KGNU's weekly evening freeform music show Sound Lab will begin broadcasting on Tuesday nights from 8-10pm, and our weekly Latin music show ¡Corriente! will be aired from 6-8pm on Saturday evenings. KGNU will no longer air the BBC NewsHour on Saturdays from 6-7pm, but instead will provide 5 minute BBC international headlines at 1:01, 4:01, and 6:01pm.
These changes will promote a more fluid listening experience on Saturdays, allowing for continuous music throughout the day, a natural continuation of our high-quality international music programming on Saturday afternoons into the evening, and a more appropriate primetime listening block for our Latin music programming. More frequent breaking international news updates from the BBC on Saturdays will keep listeners better up-to-date on current events. Tuesdays will allow for more freeform eclectic experimentation, with deeper connections between the eclectic sounds heard on Kabaret into Sound Lab, all the way through to our experimental jazz program, The Heavy Set. We expect these changes will create an overall higher-quality listening experience for our audience on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons/evenings.
