KGNU Featured in National Case Study Examining Local News

KGNU's TRENDS Podcast and equity reporting initiative in collaboration with the Community Foundation Boulder County (CFBC) are highlighted as a case study in a new national report on local media, titled Healthy Local News & Information Ecosystems: A Diagnostic Framework.

The report, produced by Impact Architects, with support from the Knight Foundation, Democracy Fund, and Google News Initiative, measures the strength of news environments across nine different communities nationwide, including Boulder County. It can be used by newsrooms and journalism-funders in Colorado to take the pulse of local news and make better funding/editorial decisions.

Despite dramatic cuts to newsroom funding within the local media landscape, in the past few years, KGNU has worked hard to grow and strengthen local news coverage, hire and train more journalists and communicators across the Front Range, while expanding bilingual and Spanish language programming.

As indicated in the report, financial support from community members and partners will help KGNU continue to innovate and expand our mission-driven services as we strive to provide for an informed and engaged community.
