KGNU G.M. Marty Durlin to depart
KGNU Station Manager Marty Durlin announced that she will step down from the position she's held for 20 years on July 1, 2007.

During her tenure the station has grown from a small nonprofit to a major force in community broadcasting with assets of more than $7 million, including the purchase and remodel of a building in Boulder; and the acquisition of 1390 AM in Denver.

Ms. Durlin co-founded the Grassroots Radio Coalition, holding its 12th annual conference this year in Lowell MA; and served as chair of both the National Federation of Community Broadcasters and the Pacifica National Board. She also served as chair of a regional coalition, Rocky Mountain Community Radio, for a number of years.

A national and international expert in community-based media, she was twice invited to Thailand to teach workshops in community radio; and she has taught numerous classes in community radio management around the U.S. She has also served as a consultant to community stations around the country and taught in the journalism department at the University of Colorado.

Ms. Durlin was the recipient of the Boulder Daily Cameras Pace Setter in the Arts award in 2004. Under her leadership, KGNU volunteers and staff have garnered a number of local and national awards.

News & Public Affairs Director Sam Fuqua will serve as interim manager for a year as the station continues to raise funds for 1390 AM, covers the Democratic National Convention in Denver, and celebrates 30 years of broadcast in 2008. Longtime news volunteer Joel Edelstein will step into Fuquas position with another halftime news staffer.

A celebration of Ms. Durlin's legacy as manager of KGNU will take place at the Boulder Theatre on May 18.
