Weekly Report from Boulder
This fall marks our last drive here at 1900 Folsom, KGNU's home for over a decade. While I didn't get to experience our days by the creek, I did enjoy some time downtown over the Aristocrat Diner with the smell of Nick's Omelets always pervasive throughout the building. There we used to hang out by the fire escape on the roof where we had a great view of the flatirons before we got ousted by downtown's quest for a new parking garage.
I don't know which memories will stand out most clearly from this facility. Likely it will be influenced by prior music director, Paul Metters' decision that we needed the equipment to host live music in the hallway. Artists such as Christine Lavin, Tony Levin, the Austin Lounge Lizards, and the Asylum Street Spankers have been our guests here, along with a host of great local musicians.
Our new facility will give us an even better space for live music, no longer feeling the tight squeeze we do when eight accordions show up for Kabaret on Monday nights. Our library space will expand so that we can hold on to more of the music we receive. We will upgrade our production facilities so that every studio has digital capabilities. I'm very excited for the opportunities this new space will allow us and do hope that we continue to receive your financial support to make the new home a reality.
