Top Releases week ending 3.20.2006

Another fun yet busy last week. On Wednesday I interviewed Camilo Lara from Mexican Institute of Sound. I really like that CD, itís got a fun feel that touches on so many areas it keeps me entertained all the way through. He called in from Mexico City so while the connection on the phone wasnít all there, I felt like our connection was good and he was happy to hear it is getting such a good response here.

Friday found me out to see Bonerama at the Boulder Theater when my friend Michael called saying he had an extra ticket. We avoided the green beer, having Nepalese food first. Hmm, New Orleans horns, after Nepalese food on St Patricks Day, why not?

Alexey and Marita were also at the show so we all decided to head out for a winter expedition the following day. Marita and I snowshoed, ultimately making it up over 10,000 feet high near Allenspark. Alexey and Michael continued up, Alexey with his split board, Michael on telemark skis. They got in about three downhill runs that way. I was impressed by their stamina as I was pretty tired out after what we did.

And Tuesday night? Well I had dinner up in the hills at my new bossesí house. Ann Blonston and Dave Glasser are owners of Airshow Mastering, a world class mastering facility right here in Boulder. Theyíve been here for about eight years and have won Grammys for their work on the Charlie Patton box set and the Smithsonian Folkways Anthology of American Folk Music. Iíve started working over there as studio manager, phasing out of KGNU as I phase in there. My last day here is April 8, ending with the fund drive. Itís been a great ride and there are certain things I know I will miss about KGNU, but I will continue on as a volunteer programmer. Kathy Gilbert will be our interim music director as we run the search for a new person, details are on the KGNU website, www.kgnu.org.

Tomorrow, Mar 21, is the last tracking day for me, as we take a break through the drive. Kathy will take over reports in April and let you know about tracking calls after that. Drop me an email if you want to stay in touch, Iíll let you know how. Otherwise, swing on by the myspace page where I do hope to keep the blogs going. Thanks to everyone for all the great music youíve sent and for keeping me on my toes over the years. I look forward to the new challenges ahead for me and for the fresh energy at KGNU..
