Quickie reports for this week as I just got back to the office today.
Austin was great. I stayed with my friend Amber so got a bit more of the local feel than just staying at the Hilton where Folk Alliance was centered. First night alone we had dinner at Maudie's, hit Threadgill's to hear a bit of Whit Smith's Hot Jazz Caravan, then over to TC's Lounge on the east side for a little blues. And that was a mellow night for music!
Highlights at the conference for me ranged from the zaniness of Brave Combo deciding to play bits of ten songs in ten minutes, the freshness of the Lost Bayou Ramblers, swing from Lache Cercel and John Jourgenson, and the beautiful guitar and voice of Juan Carlos Formell.
Not being a big barbecue fan, I wound up having Tex-Mex food nine meals in a row, yes, that includes breakfast where chips and salsa are included! Much better variety of Mexican food there than in Boulder anymore.
