Weekly Report from Boulder

Last Tuesday night it was time to perform my civic duty and go to a public meeting on the FasTracks, or commuter train, program we voted for last year. I'm feeling a bit duped. I voted in favor of the train hoping I would be able to walk to the train stop in my little town and ride all the way to Denver. But no, RTD tells me that the folks next to the tracks don't want it to stop there, and that they can only afford to put in one stop from Boulder to Longmont. I should have known that RTD would not want to build a practical train system. It's such a shame. As I pointed out to the planners, we are the community that has a population that can walk to the train. The two other stops under consideration are stops where people will need to drive to get to the train.

It's still a deceptive winter here, it's rather warm and windy in the front range, but snowing in the mountains. I was only up on Thursday morning for a quick cross-country ski before work.

Having missed Grizzly Man in the theaters, I was happy to finally rent it last week. The movie is well worth seeing, the footage of the bears and the scenery is spectacular, even if the subject is rather crazy. But I especially liked the behind the scenes footage of Richard Thompson recording the music for the film. Sometimes those extras make the DVD all the more worthwhile. Well that and how expensive going out to movies is anymore.

I'm getting lots of emails about the upcoming Folk Alliance Conference, in Austin. I'll be out of town for that Feb 9 through the 13th, but Kathy and Luna should check in while I am gone. Not sure they will do reports that week and while I'll be back for tracking time, I won't have had a lot of time to review music. Hard to believe this is my first ever trip to Austin!
