Weekly Report from Boulder

Last week I ventured out on the search for a new toaster after my old one died. I had no idea how many options there were in toasting technology nowadays. Thereís the colored LED lights on front to let you know what setting you are on, not to mention the special settings for whatever you may wish to toast. Thereís double slice or four slice, regular or wide slot, and what color of a toaster you may wish. There was even a toaster that also had an egg cooker. I finally selected a fairly simple toaster only to find that it came with a cookbook. Who knew you needed a cookbook with a toaster!?

Also last week I tried catching up on movies. I finally saw the 40 Year Old Virgin, which had me laughing out loud. I love a good comedy like that where it is good hearted and laughs at all human experience (or in this case, inexperience) and not at the expense of any particular group. Brokeback Mountain I found rather disappointing as I couldnít care much about the characters. While there was an angle to the story about forbidden love that crosses the simple lines of this being a male relationship, there wasnít much to give me sympathy for their situation. We also made it out to the Chronicles of Narnia, which came across as just too Disney. Tilda Swinton as the witch was the only redeeming factor of this movie which just dragged along and lacked all of the charm, excitement, and vision I found when I read these books in grade school. Never mind the Christian allegories, this movie prevents you from ever really caring whether good will prevail.
