Weekly Report from Boulder
You never know who you'll run into at KGNU. I was getting some tea the other day when in walked Dan Savage, author of the column, Savage Love. For as biting as he comes off in his column, he is actually a really sweet guy. When he realized I was music director, he let me peek at his iTunes! Who knew he'd be such an oldies and show tunes kinda guy?

The end of the week was quite busy. Thursday afternoon, while I took off to guest lecture to a journalism class at the university, Soular setup to do a live set here at the station. They played the Fox Theater on Friday as part of the going away party for Aimee Folette. She'll be moving to New York to work with them. It's been great working with you Aimee, best of luck with the new ventures!

Saturday welcomed the masterful Turkish performer Latif Bolat to the Nomad Theater. This wonderful, intimate performance brought the mystical, magical side of Turkish music to our ears. Latif asks audiences to refrain from applause during the show; I loved this element as it helped develop the mood of the evening. Whenever I hear his music, my soul feels a bit more open and whole.

Thankfully the weather was warm enough over the weekend to get in a Saturday bike ride and a walk on Sunday morning before heading over to the Naropa campus for a benefit concert Sunday afternoon. Local musician Sandra Wong put together some of the area's world music performers to aid both hurricane and earthquake victims. From her lovely nyckelharpa playing, to Nawang Khechog's Tibetan flutes, Guinean drumming, Balinese Gamelan, and Thai classical music, we even made it to Northern Indian dancing before the day wore out. Sets were so quick that as emcee, I was on stage longer than some of the performers! Thanks Sandra for all your efforts! Donations were being directed to Mercy Corps and Pasado Safe Haven, an animal rescue center.
