Weekly Report from Boulder
A moment to write as Robert Eldridge sets up for tonight's Kabaret with his "mental, electric guitar music."

The outpouring of support for the people impacted by the hurricane has been very impressive. My only concern is one voiced to me first by Ron Forthofer, we have to make certain that the government doesn't back off when it sees the response of the people and feel that they don't need to be there to help. It certainly has been a week to see media play a very key role in making sure the public at large is aware of this great tragedy. Very few people have let Bush get away with that comment "No one thought the levees would break" when in fact, many people had made just such a prediction. Ron's also made the comment that this is a time to act and to be writing the White House to express our dismay at the poor governmental response to the tragedy.

Last week felt rather manic as I had something going on every evening. It's good to be busy but when Saturday rolled around it was very hard to get out of the house. Thursday my friend Kristin came up from Denver and we headed over to L'Absinthe as Dave Willey (of Hamster Theater and Thinking Plague) was sitting in on accordion in a gypsy swing band called Rue. They were good fun and all the musicians were very talented and involved in a wide range of other projects.

On Friday I had to cut out early to get caught up on some chores. One of which was looking at skis at Boulder Ski Deals! From there it was off to Longmont to catch their Oktoberfest where I was a bit late to hear Dick Zavodny, the polka king of northern Colorado. Deja Blu was on stage, featuring my friend Liz on vocals. I hadn't seen them in a while so didn't recognize many of the other band members. Chris Daniels capped off the evening and I was impressed with his ability to cater to the audience. His set was very different from what he played at the KGNU benefit at Gold Hill in July.
