Weekly Report from Boulder

Today's local newspaper, the Daily Camera, ran an article about people like me and the withdrawal we face after three weeks of following the Tour de France. Personally I am looking forward to having my mornings back. Heck, I might even have time to go for a ride before work tomorrow! One thing fun with the Tour was that even though it was obvious Lance would win the overall, riders like Mickael Rasmussen kept up the suspense with the mountain jersey and his incredible tenacity in the time trial. I look forward to next year and a competitive race overall.

Yesterday was a lovely day up in Gold Hill as we enjoyed our GNU Mountain Jam. I stayed busy pouring beer throughout the day and enjoying the music and the good energy of the crowd. Chris Daniels and the Kings headlined with some solid sets from the St. Vrain Sisters and Jackstraw. We'll know more about the final numbers in a few weeks but I know our beer tip jar alone pulled in over a hundred dollars for the station. (For some reason that has become my job there, pouring beer all day. With the exception of smelling like beer at the end, it's not too bad as I'm just busy all day pouring and serving.)

Last week also saw Femi Kuti and Daara J in Boulder. I wished they had spent more time on putting the sound together. Overall it was just too loud but also not very clean. So when the earplugs went in I lost a lot of the details of the music. I liked the energy of Daara J but didn't find them to be too different than US hiphop groups. Femi was solid but perhaps not the same energy as I have seen before.

Reports are a bit late tonight as we had a full house with Mamadou Diabate in to play Kabaret on the eve of his Chautauqua performance. Our Colorado Music Festival has branched out from strictly classical music and we've been pleased to collaborate with them on these.

It's great to hear that hockey is back on for next season and Joe Sakic will for sure be back with the Avalanche.
