Weekly Report from Boulder
This is a sad day in Boulder. Tonight will be the last night at the Penny Lane CoffeeHouse, an old time Boulder institution. We've done a number of live broadcasts from there over the years, whether it's just us sitting down with an author or guest for a one on one discussion, or a broadcast of the open mic poetry readings. We're running an extended version of that this evening, from 8-10pm. After the first hour of open mic, Anne Waldman will be reading her works. Anne helped start the Naropa University with Allen Ginsberg and is but one of the people who have seen the ties between Naropa and Penny Lane and KGNU stay strong through the years.

I'm heavy into road biking of late. Whether it's getting to watch the Tour de France over breakfast or getting out on the roads myself, it's a big theme to my summer. My brother is an inspiration as he just did the Seattle to Portland ride in a day.

It was great to see George Hincapie win a stage of the Tour. The US riders have really shown growth and strength since the days Greg LeMond was seen as an outsider. One aspect I like of the Tour de France is the competition for other jerseys, as the yellow jersey is already pretty well nailed. And of course one can make up ones own competition, I give points to Iles-Baleares for best jersey of the year!

This weekend it's time for our annual Charles Sawtelle Memorial GNU Mountain Jam. Since that's too much to say we just say The Charles anymore. I'm looking forward to hearing Jackstraw as Danny Barnes, formerly of the Bad Livers, is with them. Chris Daniels and the Kings, the Missing String Band, and the St. Vrain Sisters (former members of the Motherfolkers) will also play. Many thanks to the bands, and especially Chris Daniels for all you've done to help KGNU! The party starts at Noon at the Gold Hill Inn, west of Boulder up Sunshine Canyon in Gold Hill.
