Weekly Report from Boulder
There seemed something anticlimactic last week about discovering the identity of Deep Throat.  It does answer a question to that era, but then, is this the question to ask?  I wonder about the lessons learned from and since then.  The sad reality to me is that the right wing learned the power of the media, and has since used it to their advantage.  Why else would such a mainstream reporter as Dan Rather continue to get the "liberal media" identification? 

Rather was just in Denver where he commented to a gathering of investigative reporters "Your country needs your work right now - now more than ever."  While true, the irony I see in that is him working for a network that aired those canned "news reports" distributed by the government.  Shouldn't that be a greater issue than these odd retractions of stories that Newsweek and Rather have had to do over stories that are in essence true?

Off the soapbox and on to some music - I got to see Neko Case in Denver on Saturday.  I was so happy to attend a non-smoking show at the Bluebird; it's one thing that makes going to shows there hard for me.  Neko finally came out about 11pm, for a show booked for an 8pm start time!  But she was well worth the wait.  Accompanied by a solid five-piece band, Neko's voice was strong and powerful.  During her encore she did a stunning cover of Wayfaring Stranger.
