Weekly Report from Boulder
THIS is May??!!? There is snow on the ground, yesterday I saw snow falling, and it's May! I can't tell you how many weekend projects I heard of being cancelled due to weather. No replanting the burn area up Lefthand Canyon, no KGNU yard cleanup, and oh the poor tulips on the mall when it was supposed to be the tulip festival weekend! This weather is making me desperate, I broke out the sewing machine over the weekend! Great chance to get through some music though. After listening to Smithsonian Folkways' Los Camperos de Valles I just had to listen to Kronos Quartet's Nuevo again.

During the fund drive, I had that jolt of missing hockey. Thankfully there is at least coverage in the papers now with the hockey World Championships going on and Colorado playing for the President's Cup in the Central Hockey League. The Eagles are up two games to one and playing again tonight.

Last week author Dan Millman came in to talk about his new book. I had a chance to meet him as I was such a fan of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior. He was a very pleasant fellow but didn't have quite the spark I had hoped to see. Was it the exhaustion of doing an author's tour, or, as a writer friend said "If he had that magic, he wouldn't be an author?" From here it was off to meet friends then see Zap Mama. I thought this one of their better shows in a while, not like their first tour, but a good representation of where their music is now. Afterwards I had a chance to go backstage and say hello to Marie. Now there is a woman with some mighty magic going on!

One bit of news that caught my attention last week was that ExxonMobil's fourth quarter earnings were the largest (at $8.4 billion) ever posted by an American company. If only it would warm up I might get more interested in riding my bike to work!
