Weekly Report from Boulder
Did everyone have a good April Fool's Day? We didn't do much on air, but leave it to the Colorado Daily, flip it over and for the day it's the Colorado Daisy. This year they gave us the news that CU President Betsy Hoffman is, in fact, a witch.

Friday was also my friend George's birthday so we went out for a nice sushi dinner before going to hear the Dave Holland Quintet up at Macky Auditorium. I like that hall but this season was tough being on the side, it really unbalances the sound, especially as it's an auditorium designed for orchestras. The musicians were all great but I especially liked the drummer, Nate Smith. We'd been talking at dinner about the way drummers and bass players interact and this was a great illustration of how when the bass stepped out, the drums held a good steady beat, and when it was time for a drum solo, the bass kept a nice solid, steady line. The evening was great, but for the man in front of us who seemed to expect a classical audience that sat quietly without moving. Ironically, in his quest to quiet people around him, he became the main distraction.

Other music last week came from our in-studios with Avishai Cohen, just for an interview, and Dana Lyons. Dana is best known for his song Cows With Guns so it was kind of fun to have him here to talk and play and ignore that song. I met Dana a good ten years ago when he was last in Boulder and before that song was a hit so felt I had plenty else to talk with him about.

The weekend was nice and one of those classic Colorado spring weekends, skiing one day and biking the next!
