What’s with all these Monday shows? Last week it was rushing off to catch Habib Koite at Boulder Theater. He put on a great show. I think everything about him has gotten even better – singing, playing, and that he can speak English to the crowd! Sadly I didn’t make it to the end as I was still trying to sleep off the crud.

Thursday it was a whole different world as I went to hear the Takacs Quartet play up at the Grusin Music Hall here in Boulder. It’s great having one of the world’s well-renowned string quartets based in Boulder. This program had some wonderful contemporary pieces by Bartok and Shostakovich as well as a late work of Beethoven. They are very expressive players and handled the material well.

Today we had Joseph Arthur in playing in the studio. I’d been a little nervous as the times I’ve seen him before he just turned up the noise and distortion. Thankfully today he was enjoyable and played some great songs off his new album. I got asked my favorite song of his and realized it so depends on the day, but that he manages to have a minimum of one brilliant song per record. He’s playing tonight in Denver but here we go again – drive to Denver of a Monday night?
