Weekly Report from Boulder
On Tuesday we welcomed the Tin Hat Trio to Boulder. It was the groups first visit to town in rather a while and great to see them again. The show was at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, a wonderful intimate space in downtown. The full crowd enjoyed Tin Hat Trio. Each of the players brings such a unique approach to his or her instrument. Mark Orton on guitar has those shades of Bill Frisell but is very much his own player with a huge range of influences. Rob Burger, the accordionist and pianist is a very playful performer, providing some of the rhythm and foundation of the sound. Carla Kihlstedt seems in a realm all her own, I notice that both men and women are drawn to her wonderful presence. I loved her circular bowing technique among other tricks that really brought a lot of fluidity to her sound. And as if each performer wasnít so strong in their own right, as a trio they work together very well and play off each other throughout the show.

Over the weekend I went up to the Shambhala Mountain Center, which is normally a Buddhist retreat, for a yoga weekend with my friend Marita. We had a wonderful time. Itís a great thing to both be able to get away and to be able to focus on your practice. I feel like such a beginner in yoga but we were with a great group where it didnít matter if people were working on advanced parts of the asanas while I was still getting the basics. Everyone was very encouraging and we were grateful for the time and for our teachers who led us very well with great encouragement and without judgment.

I will be around for the remainder of the month and will soon be getting my own as well as DJs top ten lists together. As usual, I will be away with family for a belated holiday celebration the first week of the new year.
