Weekly Report from Boulder
Ahh, the Monday after the fund drive! We raised over $175,000. Not bad but we still need more so will continue with a ìsoftî drive pitch for a while yet. I was very inspired that despite a heavy push on the Denver audience for our news programming, many people were commenting that they were fans of both news and music. Shows like Old Grass, GNU Grass and Democracy Now continue to be strong fund-raisers for us. Our Grateful Dead marathon, the finale to the drive, had a slow start but still garnered a number of pledges. And our daytime music shows did consistently well. Thanks to all who supported the station and if you want, there's still time to make your donation to keep community radio alive and well here in Boulder!

After a long stretch of days worked in a row I was happy to have a break last Tuesday and go down to Denver to see my friend Michele. She just had rotator cuff surgery so is very happy to get driven around. We went to the Natural History Museum's Egypt exhibit. It's remarkable to see artifacts of that age and quality, some around 4000 years old!

Thursday we had a visit from the Mexican singer Lila Downs. She's a wonderful person and I enjoyed a chance to chat with her as she got ready to play some for us. Her show Friday at the Boulder Theater was well attended. I showed up late and had a hard time getting fully engaged with the show. First I moved down from the balcony and being closer helped. One issue I realized was that while her musicians were all talented, I didn't really like the drummer. He overwhelmed some of the performance and I wish he played with more subtlety.
