Weekly Report from Boulder
Yep, it's Sunday night and I'm here at work with the Eclipse show on the air and getting ready to follow the hip-hop with some world music. The drive is off to a solid start and we're getting some good response from new listeners on 1390 AM. Tuesday will be my first day off in two weeks so I look forward to a day in Denver with my friend Michele who is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Last Monday I had the great pleasure of seeing Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glennie in a solo show at Macky Auditorium. She gave me a new appreciation for the marimba and also had some compelling works for snare drum and maracas. Considering that she is largely deaf, she really is a quite stunning performer, her dynamic range is wonderful and on a few of the pieces the overtones and spaces between the notes played were some of the more entrancing moments.

Wednesday I was out with some friends for more debate watching. What troubles me is that there were times we were laughing, and this was when the president was acting serious! For an agnostic, I was rather touched by Kerry's comments on religion. He has a far better understanding of what I believe is being an American, we have a right to believe in our own version of god or gods and that belief should not dictate how everyone else lives their lives. Bush's reaction to the flu vaccine shortage (Don't get one!) also slayed me. As a friend later said, "Hey, so if there's a food shortage we should just not eat?!"

In the morning Kaki King will be coming by the studio. We're offering an Ovation guitar along with her visit, for a pledge of course. I've had a chance to play it some and it puts my ancient little Gibson to shame.
