Weekly Report from Boulder
Last week was a very busy one around here. Wednesday morning we went public with the news that we are purchasing an AM signal! KGNU has been limited to 1300 watts since we went on the air. Of course it meant that Denver listeners were often unable to get the station. Starting yesterday, we now broadcast on both 88.5 FM and 1390 AM. We opened up the day with our Gospel Chime Hour and host Madame Andrews, an amazing woman who has been coming up from Denver for all these years, even when many of her friends could not get her show! That was followed by a day of Pacifica coverage of the protests in New York leading up to the RNC. I came in last night for the world music show and it is exciting to know that a whole new audience is now able to tune in to KGNU! Thanks to everyone who helped get us the funds for the downpayment, now we just need to raise the next $4 million!

One of our bigger fundraising events of the year is the Book and Record Sale, which was held on Saturday. I haven't heard totals yet but we did get one count that showed over $7k coming in. We had much better product this year, with the exception of winding up with around 1200 copies of a Tantric Empowerment record (Only in Boulder, eh?!) Thanks to Ann and Kathy and Kathleen and Alexa for all their hard work organizing this year!

Believe it or not I did take time out on Thursday (once we finished sorting all the CDs for the sale!) and headed down to Denver to catch Bebel Gilberto. A very yummy show. She knows how to work a crowd. I had the pleasure of doing an interview with her on Wednesday and her warmth showed through both in speaking on the phone and in performance. Catch her when you get a chance!
