Weekly Report from Boulder
This was a fun and wet week here in Boulder. Lots of rainstorms, enough so that I heard the weekend's RockyGrass fest referred to as MuddyGrass. We stayed dry but cool attending a few shows at Chautauqua and one at Round Midnight. The concerts kicked off on Thursday as Daniel Binelli joined the Colorado Music Festival for an evening of tango. Binelli played with Piazzolla and is a wonderful living proponent of modern tango. Accompanied by the Festival Symphony and his wife, Uruguayan pianist Polly Ferman, their renditions of Piazzolla were very compelling.

Friday night we went off to downtown club Round Midnight to catch Jolie Holland. She put on a good set and my friends were comparing her to Johnny Cash and other classic dark singer songwriters. Jolie also paid a visit to KGNU the next morning, for her we were willing to stretch the bounds of bluegrass by having her live on the Old Grass, GNU Grass show.

Saturday evening Youssou N'Dour played at Chautauqua. After a wet day it was great to get up to Chautauqua to find the rain had stopped. So Bert and I walked around for a while outside before heading in to catch the last of the opening act. Some days hearing two songs of an opener is just perfect!! Youssou was in good form and got the energy up high very early in the show. Earlier in the week I had a great time interviewing him, even though he called from the cell phone from the tour bus. Finally the sun broke out yesterday and the day was spent hiking, walking and biking and enjoying mild July weather.
