Weekly Report from Boulder
What is this, summer or something? I can't believe how much is going on lately. I've been out to a great variety of things in the last week, just not music performances!

Saturday night in honor of a girlfriend's impending wedding, a group of us went out to Menopause: The Musical in Denver. It's a cute show where classic songs are rewritten about well, hot flashes, sleepless nights and all the other joys of middle of life womanhood. The night before that was more theater as I took in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival's production of Antony and Cleopatra. The shows are done on the CU campus in a lovely, open courtyard. A great cast, a honed production that kept the play to two hours and an updated setting made for an enjoyable evening.

Thursday night was spent with my friend Amber as she heads off to Texas by way of Idaho. We joined the local "cruzer ride" a casual bike ride through the streets and paths of Boulder. It's a fun event that was daunted by the heavy police presence this week. It turned out that half the working police force felt they should monitor the 200+ bicyclists who were truly out to enjoy a nice summer evening. The very humorless cops, who claimed rider's attitudes showed us "to be above the law", issued about a dozen tickets. I kept thinking that I contributed when I had some words with one of the female bike cops. At one intersection it wasn't clear that after stopping we were okay to proceed as a police car was stopped at the other corner of the intersection. Her attitude was that I didn't know the law. Sorry honey, but I do know bike law pretty well, having worked alongside the old, more fun Boulder bike cops.

Last week I also got out finally to see Farenheit 9/11. A group of us went who listen to KGNU and were familiar with much of the material presented in the film. I encourage people to take any friends you may have that might still be on the fence about our current political situation. Moore has done his research and does a good job of balancing some harsh and scary material with some moments of levity and absurdity. It makes me ask "How could we have wound up with a president who hadn't left the country before elected?" and "Shouldn't the US President have to pass an IQ test first?"
