Weekly Report from Boulder
Tonight is it for hockey season! I'm still rooting for Calgary. After all they have a lot of former Avalanche players. And they are in Canada. The Stanley Cup in Florida still doesn't sound right to me. Once that is over, well no, I'm not really going to turn into a basketball fan, but the old home team sure gets my support. Go Pistons!!

It turned quite rapidly into summertime here. Which is great as my friend Christine is visiting from California. We made it out hiking three times already, twice with her very curious two-year-old and yesterday on a long, hot six miles to some old homesteads west of Lyons.

This was also a good weekend for looking up in the sky. For two days in a row the hot air balloons were flying over my house. On Friday morning four of them went over towards the north, changed altitude and came back south. Then with another adjustment they headed back to the northeast. At one point I could look straight up and see the flame rising into the interior of one balloon. On Saturday I was riding my bike past Longmont airport where I stopped to watch some skydivers land. They were having a weekend event and as I watched one group land, I could see the next group jump from the plane, first appearing as little dots then blossoming into parachutists. The experienced jumpers would do steep drops and curves accelerating their descent then pull up right before landing. Hundreds of jumps were made each of the three days of their event.

This coming weekend will be time for a good musical fix as we prepare for the first Denver Global Groove Festival. Organized by the same folks who bring us the LoDo Music Festival in downtown Denver, this two day event promises to be a great dance party with performers like Ricardo Lemvo, Thomas Mapfumo, Los Mocosos, as well as local African band Dialy Kounda.
