Weekly Report from Boulder
Our local Whole Foods store in Boulder is celebrating KGNU this Thursday by donating 2% of their sales to KGNU. Save your shopping til then!

This Saturday, we will be celebrating our 26th birthday here at the station. Since he's in town, we're having Bert Lams of the California Guitar Trio play during the Open House, sometime between 10am and 2pm. He'll be doing his first live presentation of the Bach preludes he's working on for a recording project.

I got home around 8 last night from Louisville, KY. Of course the night before had been a late one (thanks for having the Open House Clay!) I staggered onto my 2pm flight thinking most people had already gone home, but nope, had a nice talk with Dale Spear from PRI all the way to Minneapolis.

Great conference this year, though I miss the times of the joint meals. All the dinners I was invited to were on Thursday and I got in too late to enjoy those. I think Saturday was the most successful day of music ever at the Non-comm. Having Samite, Jamie Cullum, Robert Earl Keen, Patti Smith and Polyphonic Spree all in one day meant that each band was able to stand out from the others.

Highlights for me included seeing Patti Smith because she is a goddess. It's wonderful to see her looking so happy; and to have her powerful music and messages to share. You know I'm going to say what a joy it was to see Samite, as I firmly believe the world music fits in so well with what we are doing on noncommercial radio. The Ditty Bops will go down as my favorite act I saw that I hadn't heard of before. Jamie Cullum's bold opening acapella won me over and he kept me going with his energy and sense of fun, not to mention his solid band.

As usual it was great to see all of you that I saw, and sorry I didn't catch up with some of you! I was so glad to see some new faces and meet more of the folks I talk to every week. I hope to see folks again in Boulder in August!
