Weekly Report from Boulder
Our fund drive wrapped up on Saturday and we raised a total of $130,000. That’s not bad but it also isn’t as much as our goal so we will now continue in the "soft drive" mode on our way towards the actual goal. Thanks again to everyone who helped with premiums. The shelves are full of claimed CDs and goodies for those who come in to browse for their goodies.

I had the odd schedule during the drive of working on the weekends so some weekdays off. I rather like those as I can have fun and be productive. So Tuesday the car got in for an oil change and since that is in north Boulder I could ride my bike on the great trails on the west side of town to and from the shop. We’ve had such a warm dry fall that I continue to spend time on my bikes. Though today was the day to switch from riding in to work to taking the bus.

On Sunday my friend Marita and I headed out for a bike ride that quickly transformed as we kept running into the open studios. First up was a woman doing wonderful Asian calligraphy and Marita signed up for some classes. We saw a card there for Mydra Miller’s studio, which turned out to be around the corner. I knew Mydra from my days working in photo labs. How fun to see her wonderful studio and check in to see how her brother Roger is doing. He was a member of Mission of Burma and Birdsongs of the Mesozoic but is now busier with the Alloy Orchestra.

All in all that was a great day and we got in a fairly long ride as well as visits to about a half dozen studios. It was great timing for the last warm day of the year.

Hockey season has begun and the Avalanche are looking good, but right now even I could almost get excited about baseball. It’s hard not to root for Cubs and final that pits them against Boston. Go underdogs!

We’re staying very busy with interviews lately as we look at artists from Michelle Shocked to John Reischmann to Väsen coming in to the studios not to mention a phone interview scheduled for the end of the month with Bill Frisell.

My next trip comes up at the end of the month when I spend a long weekend in Salt Lake City. I do come home on Tuesday but with the airport being located out in Kansas, won’t make it back for tracking on the 28th. I’ll be back in on Wednesday the 29th and I’m sure many folks will be just recovering from the CMJ Music Marathon so we can catch up via email.
