Kabaret Studio Information

Our studio is large enough to accomdate most bands, from solo and small ensembles to 13 piece funk/soul bands.

Mics: Shure SM58s, 57s, Beta 52. Superlux LDCs, and a various others...

Mixing is done via a Mackie 24 Channel 8-Bus console.

Outboard Gear: Lexicon and Yamaha Reverb and Effects, 4 Channels of dbx166 compression.

Monitoring is generally done via a single headphone mix into Sony 7506 Headphones.

The main stereo feed is recorded directly to CD and computer. An audio CD copy of the show is given to the band after the performance.

Piano: Baldwin Upright, let us know in advance if you wish to use it so we can make sure it's tuned.

Information for Performers

Wanna play on Kabaret? Interested bands should email kabaret AT kgnu dot org. Kabaret is usually booked 2 months or so in advance.

The format of the show is mixed performance/interview. Sets of three or four songs in a row mixed with interview segments typically keeps the flow of the show going well. Performers should prepare a minimum of 45 minutes of material. The exact format of the show can be negotiated with the host and engineer.

Terms of Performance:

• In general, we ask bands to load in at 5:30, and we're live from 7-8pm. Directions to KGNU Kabaret studio in Boulder can be found here. KGNU's phone number is (303) 449-4885.
• Language Policy: Performers are expected to follow FCC decency guidelines regarding language while on air. Please ask the producer or someone at the show if you have any questions about content that might not be considered appropriate on-air. In a nutshell, if you aren't sure about whether or not something is appropriate to be on air, don't say it.
• At the end of the performance, the band/artist will be given a CD recording of the show. This will be one continuous stereo track. Bands are welcome to use this recording or portions of this recordring for promotional and other non-commercial purposes. KGNU may use this recording or portions for encore performances of the Kabaret show, or for a future "best of" Kabaret album to be used for promotional purposes. In the latter case we shall contact the band or artist for confirmation and approval. An MP3 archive of the show is automatically published to KGNU's main website as an rss/podcast feed and archive.

Tips for a good performance:
