Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber has Colorado American Indian Scholars Specialty License Plates that Benefit the Scholarship Fund, You need not be an American Indian or a student to buy a plate, just have a desire to support the higher education of deserving Indian students. The proceeds go to a scholarship for American Indian Colorado residents who attend a Colorado institution of higher learning. You need to purchase a certificate from the Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber for $25 to take to your Motor Vehicle department in order to buy a plate. Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Program, Class is held every Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. This is an educational opportunity for fathers wanting to strengthen their parenting skills. They have added a co-ed group that will also meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The co-ed group will focus on couples and women in single parent households. The groups will follow a 12 session curriculum of the Fatherhood is Sacred program. SAMSHA-Circle of Care-Keeping the Circle Whole Project has ended it's three year research project on Children's Mental Health in the seven counties in the Denver metro area on November 3, 2008. Isabelle Medchill, Theresa Halsey and Marsha Whiting no longer work at DIFRC. Marsha works at the American Indian College Fund and Theresa & Isabelle can be reached at their homes. The SOC grant was Not given to the Division of Mental Health on behalf of the Denver Metro Indian community for 2009 and beyond. The American Indian Nurturing Parenting Program at DIFRC is held on Tuesdays starting in July 7, 2009, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. This Program is a free, 16 week group based program where parents and children learn about empathy, appropriate behaviors, brain development, rewards and punishments, praise and self-esteem, non-violent discipline and ways to have fun as a family. The American Indian Nurturing Parenting program will offer: (2) Parent Groups, Youth Group ages 5-11, American Indian stories and games, childcare (for Siblings under 5). The Saturday sessions give everyone a chance to learn and play the game. After short instruction and a drill period, all participants play a game. Half time sessions often include short talks on health, the importance of being drug and alcohol free, the different tribal traditions and legends of the game and its spiritual origin.
