Title: Denver Outreach Director Hours: 20 hours/week Salary: $18,750 plus full benefits and generous vacation plan Contact: Send cover letter and resume to Kris Abrams at kris@kgnu.org by October 31, 2005.
Organization and opportunity KGNU is an independent, community radio station based in Boulder, Colorado. Last year, at the request of Denver-based individuals and media activists, KGNU purchased 1390 AM and is now broadcasting to the 2 million people of metro Denver. The move quadrupled KGNU?s potential listening audience, and set a precedent for community radio stations nationwide.
KGNU now has an exciting opportunity to make the airwaves accessible to the diverse communities of Denver and become a vibrant, inclusive, participatory station for the entire metro area.
Job description and duties: ? In collaboration with appropriate staff and volunteers, the Outreach Director will develop and implement a comprehensive outreach plan for KGNU in Denver. The strategy will involve a two-way communication process: introducing the diverse communities of Denver to KGNU and the opportunities a community radio station presents, as well as soliciting input from these communities on what they want in a community radio station, including but not limited to programming, access, and training. The plan will include a timeline with benchmarks;
? Meet with individuals and groups in Denver, including activist, educational, cultural, political, religious, and community organizations, and develop and maintain strategic partnerships;
? Identify, empower and cultivate potential volunteers to take an active role in creating the community radio station they want in Denver. This may include identifying potential producers of new Denver-based news and music programming, participants in a Denver Advisory Board, Denver Fundraising Committee, and a Denver Outreach Committee, and recruiting potential members for KGNU?s Board of Directors;
? Develop outreach materials targeting Denver-based individuals and non-profits, identify distribution points for these materials, and coordinate their distribution;
? Compile the input received from individuals and groups, and work with appropriate staff to develop proposals for programming, training and other station activities based on the results of the input;
? Maintain an outreach database;
? Help Denver-based individuals and groups take full advantage of everything KGNU has to offer, including free Public Service Announcements to non-profits and daily Community and Concert Calendars;
? Assist in producing the Community Calendar (weekdays);
? Write a quarterly web-based news letter for Denver volunteers;
? Produce and/or assist volunteers in producing KGNU events in Denver as part of the outreach plan;
? Represent KGNU at events in Denver;
? Coordinate Denver outreach volunteers, including the volunteer-powered Denver Outreach Committee (currently known as the Denver Friends of KGNU), to help achieve above tasks;
? Participate in weekly staff meetings at KGNU?s studios in Boulder;
? Participate in KGNU?s fundraising drives and membership activities and perform other duties as requested and as time allows.
