KGNU Presents:
Portland Cello Project
E-Town Hall--1535 Spruce Street Since the group's inception in late 2007, the Portland Cello Project (or, PCP, as their fans affectionately call them), has wowed audiences all over the country with extravagant performances, everywhere from Prairie Home Companion, to that punk rock club in the part of town your grandma warns you not to go to after dark. The group has built a reputation mixing genres and blurring musical lines and perceptions wherever they go.

No two shows are alike, with a repertoire now numbering over 800 pieces of music you wouldn't normally hear coming out of a cello. The Cello Project's stage setup ranges from the very simple (4-6 cellos), to the all out epic (which has included 12 cellos playing with full choirs, winds, horns, and numerous percussion players).

Louisville's Historic Downtown Hey neighbor, c'mon over... and bring your guitar. He helped invent Country Rock, he's a Rock n Roll Hall of Famer, he's a founding member of Buffalo Springfield and Poco, and he lives in the neighborhood. We are bodaciously thrilled to have Broomfield's favorite son bring his great band and timeless tunes, plus that crystal clear tenor, to the Steinbaugh.

KGNU Presents:
Hot Club of Detroit
Swallow Hill Music Following up "It's About That Time," "Nighttown" and the eponymous 2006 debut "Hot Club of Detroit"Hot Club of Detroit expands its sonic and compositional horizons with "Junction" (released August 2012). Retaining its original lineup of reeds, two guitars, accordion, upright bass and no drums, this is the bands fourth release for Mack Avenue Records. There are personnel changes, however, and for the first time, the Hot Club of Detroit is joined (on three tracks) by a vocalist: French musician Cyrille Aime, a native of Django Reinhardts hometown and a winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition.

"Junctions'" sound is at once vintage and boldly new, rooted in the legacy of Django Reinhardt but also the sensibilities of Ornette Coleman, Pat Metheny, John Zorn and even the rock band Phish. Far from a traditional gypsy jazz ensemble, Hot Club of Detroit (HCOD) proves itself a versatile modern jazz group, with a unique acoustic-electric sound that surges past expectations and genre boundaries.
