Denver Campaign Director Report: (See attached report)
Kris Abrams reviewed the loan repayment schedule and outlined some options available to KGNU. Kris reminded the Board and others that even though weve secured these loans, now is not the time to sit back and relax; there is still much work ahead of us, particularly in fundraising, and she again requested that more Board members take an active role. We need to send out Thank Yous to major donors and continue to cultivate and further develop the relationships weve now established. The idea was raised that we should make phone calls to 1390 members to thank them, and the 1390 Committee will address this at their next meeting. Kris continues to work to find additional donors for the last $500,000 owed to Andres Neidig.
Discussion of Future of Denver Campaign Director Position
Kris has already started to morph into this next position, since things will move more quickly with someone already working in this position. Kris will take two weeks off following the fall pledge drive to consider whether she can really commit to this position and to make the right decision. Salary continues to be an issue. During that time the Board should review the job description and plan thank yous to be sent to major donors.
Station Managers Report: (See attached report)
Committee Reports
PBOG Committee: (See attached report)
Ann Colcord spoke on the proposed Deepak Chopra event, which has the potential to gross about $8,500 for KGNU. The Board passed a motion to entrust the PBOG committee with the details of the event. Andy Bardwell added that the co-sponsored event was a success in terms of making new friends in Denver. The Board passed a motion to send an official KGNU thank you to the Denver Justice & Peace Committee.
Signal Committee: Davide Andrea gave a special report on the technical aspects of a possible signal swap thats been under discussion among some of the staff and Board. The Board passed a resolution empowering Marty to Marc Hand/Public Radio Capital to explore the fair market value and to negotiate for the purchase of an FM frequency in the public broadcast spectrum.
Chip reported that he will attempt again to present a plan to the Nederland Planning Commission on Oct. 19th, regarding the location of a transmitter in Nederland.
Follow-Up Committee: Following discussion of the Denver Outreach Director position and competing needs for assistance in both the news and music departments, the Board passed a motion to post the Denver Outreach Director position as written.
Nominating Committee: (See attached report)
Program Committee: (See attached report)
Building Committee: Regarding the Namaste Solar project, engineers have reviewed the technical plans and things are moving ahead.
Other Business: Marty suggested that the November Board meeting, the annual meeting, be moved to the third Tuesday, November 15th, due to scheduling conflicts. Also, as Marty mentioned in her report, she would like to see the Board return to meeting every other month (odd numbered months) in order to help alleviate some of the burden on staff and Board. Both of these issues were motioned, seconded and passed. The annual meeting of the Board will be held, beginning at 6pm with a business meeting to last until 7:30, at which time staff will give their reports and desserts will be served.
The Executive Committee will meet Tuesday, Nov. 8th to set the agenda for the annual meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 9:40pm
Respectfully submitted,
Steven Sherman-Boemker
Secretary, KGNU Board of Directors
